How to Keep Your Home Pet-Safe This Summer

If you love your furry friends as much as we do, then you’ll want to check out these 5 ways to keep your home pet safe all through the summer. Our pets are more than animals, they’re our family! And if we can do a couple simple things to keep our home pet safe, we are all for it.

  1. Keep Plants Pet Friendly

    • This is a big one! We love plants, both indoor and outdoor, and summertime brings about so many opportunities to bring home fresh florals and produce. Just be sure that the plants you bring home are pet safe! Certain plants can be toxic to your pets whether they accidentally eat the plant itself, or just come into contact with its pollen.

  2. Keep Vehicles in Good Maintenance

    • This may seem silly, but every year thousands of animals fall victim to antifreeze poisoning. If you have a vehicle on your property that leaks fluids, make sure there is no possible way for animals to get to the liquid. The sweet smell entices even the brightest pets, and it is never a good idea to ingest these harmful chemicals.

  3. Be Mindful of Lawn Care

    • We know that having a beautiful lush lawn is a true feat! Just make sure the fertilizers, weed killers, and lawn treatments you use are safe for your pets. Lawn chemicals often contain ingredients that can cause skin irritation, eye and ear infections, indigestion, and can potentially be poison to your pets!

  4. Flea and Tick Prevention

    • Beyond preventative measure on your pets themselves, protect your home from these pests by making sure to rid your landscaping of any standing water. Also, you can choose to treat your lawn with pet safe flea and tick prevention to create a safe barrier around your home.

  5. Consider the Heat

    • Especially in our area, the summer sun gets HOT! If you’re bringing your furry friends out to enjoy the sunshine with you, make sure that your ground cover is conducive to safe play, and that there is available shade for your pets. Avoid spending long amounts of time with your pets on hard concrete or blacktop. And be sure that fresh, cool water is always available.

Happy Summer! Stay Pet-Safe and have so much fun!
